Who are we?
We are a family support service, for families of children aged 5-18years living within North Ayrshire. We work with families seeking support to improve family relationships. This includes families of children with neurodevelopmental differences such as autism, FASD or ADHD.
Our aim is to help build parenting capacity and provide practical support, advice and guidance to enhance family relationships.
What do we do?
The Family Centred Wellbeing Service consists of: A team of Family Wellbeing Support Workers An Occupational Therapist An Educational Psychologist A Speech and Language Therapist.
We work with families of young people aged 5 to 18 years who have been referred to us through North Ayrshire primary and secondary schools and the first response Social Work team.
The service can work alongside you to understand the goals you would like to achieve for your family, with a focus on promoting and improving positive family wellbeing. The service can also assist you with a broad range of issues and needs.
The Family Centred Wellbeing Service can also help to support your family where neurodiversity (such as Autism, ADHD or FASD) is present. It is important to note that although we can support children and young people who are neurodiverse, we are NOT a diagnostic service. However, your child does not require a diagnosis to access the various resources that may be available to families.
The types of support we can provide include the following:
- Helping your child to develop strategies that can assist them to better regulate their emotions
- Providing you as a parent with strategies to help you co-regulate with your child and better understand your child’s specific needs
- Linking you with local and national organisations who can provide the most relevant information surrounding your child’s neurodivergence
- Provide a period of practical support that can help you to implement strategies and routines that can contribute towards your child reaching their full potential
- Exploring activities in the community that will benefit the social and emotional development of your child and help to build a wider support network
- Supporting you to access welfare rights services to ensure benefits and income maximisation
