At NEST, we know that sensory processing plays a big role in everyday life.
For many neurodivergent children, young people and adults, the world can feel loud, bright, busy or overwhelming.
Sounds, textures, smells, movement and visual input can all be processed differently, and this can impact wellbeing, behaviour and daily activities.
Sensory processing differences are not something to fix.
They are part of how someone experiences and understands the world 💚
What Is Sensory Processing? 🧠
Sensory processing is how our nervous system receives, organises and responds to sensory information, including:
Sound
Touch
Movement and balance
Sight
Smell and taste
Internal body sensations
When sensory input feels too much, too little, or unpredictable, it can affect regulation, communication, focus and emotional responses.
This doesn’t mean someone is “overreacting” or being difficult. It means their sensory system needs understanding and support.
That’s Why We’ve Created a Free Pre‑Recorded Workshop on Sensory Processing 🌈
This on‑demand workshop is designed to help build understanding, reduce stigma and support neuro-affirming approaches to sensory needs.
What You’ll Learn ✨
In this three part workshop, we’ll explore:
What sensory processing is and how it shows up in daily life
Common sensory differences experienced by neurodivergent people
How sensory overload and under‑stimulation can impact regulation and behaviour

How to create environments that feel safer, calmer and more accessible
