💡 What NEST Can and Can’t Do: A Quick Guide

Updated: Jul 9

At NEST, we know that navigating support for neurodivergence can be overwhelming - and often confusing. Whether you’re a parent, carer, professional, or neurodivergent yourself, it can be hard to know where to turn or what kind of help is available.

That’s where we come in.

We want to be as clear as possible about what support we offer - and just as honest about what falls outside our role. We’ll always try our best to point you in the right direction, even if we’re not the right team to help with something directly.

✅ What NEST Can Do

We’re here to offer practical, empowering support to individuals, families, and professionals across Ayrshire and Arran. Here are just some of the ways we can help:

  • Offer free, friendly workshops that are open to everyone

  • Provide advice, information, and guidance for individuals, families, carers, and professionals

  • Share clear, practical resources developed alongside families and professionals

  • Be a listening ear when things feel uncertain or overwhelming

  • Empower you with confidence and understanding

  • Raise awareness through inclusive social media and blog content about neurodivergence

  • Signpost you to trusted tools, services, and supports in your local area

Everything we do is designed to be accessible, inclusive, and grounded in lived experience.

🚫 What NEST Can’t Do

We know it’s just as important to be honest about what we don’t do. Some types of support need to come from clinical services and other professionals, and while we’ll always try to guide you, here’s what’s outside our scope:

  • We can’t diagnose or assess for neurodevelopmental conditions

  • We don’t offer therapy, clinical advice, or mental health treatment – but we can help you explore your options

  • We can’t help you complete benefit forms or legal paperwork – though we can signpost to services that do

  • We don’t provide crisis intervention or emergency support

  • We can’t visit families at home or offer in-person individual support

  • We don’t recommend private diagnostic services – but we can help you understand your choices

  • We don’t attend meetings like TAC or TWF – but we’re happy to help you prepare or reflect afterwards

We know these boundaries can be frustrating when you’re looking for support, but we promise we’ll always try to guide you gently and clearly toward the right place.

💬 Still Not Sure?

If you’re unsure about whether we can help, just ask. We’re here to listen, and we’ll always do our best to support you — even if that means pointing you somewhere else.
