✈️ Glasgow Prestwick Airport Accessibility Forum: Building a More Inclusive Journey for All

Last week, Celine and Clare had the pleasure of attending the Glasgow Prestwick Airport Accessibility Forum, hosted by the brilliant Martine and Roddy from the airport team.

This meeting brought together a passionate group of people and organisations all working towards one shared goal: making travel more accessible, inclusive and empowering for everyone.

🤝 The forum was held in line with the Civil Aviation Authority’s requirement for regular accessibility meetings - but it was clear from the start that this was more than just a tick-box exercise. It was a space for real collaboration, listening and action.

We were joined by inspiring representatives from:

  • VASA

  • Alzheimer Scotland

  • RNIB Scotland

  • South Ayrshire Access Panel

  • Sibohean Brown MSP

  • And of course, NEST Ayrshire

Together, we shared feedback, ideas and lived experiences to help shape the future of Prestwick Airport’s accessibility journey.

🌟 What’s Already Happening

It was encouraging to hear about the positive steps Prestwick Airport is already taking to improve:

  • Physical access throughout the terminal

  • Communication and signage for neurodivergent and disabled travellers

  • Staff training to better support passengers with a range of needs (including training that NEST have already delivered to staff to help support neurodivergent travellers)

These changes are helping to create a space where every passenger and visitor - regardless of ability or circumstance - can move through the airport with confidence and ease.

💬 Why Accessibility Matters

Accessibility isn’t just about ramps and signage. It’s about belonging. It’s about making sure everyone feels safe, supported and included - whether they’re travelling for work, a holiday, or something more personal.

Forums like this one remind us that inclusive design benefits everyone. When we listen to diverse voices, we build better systems, stronger communities and more compassionate spaces.

👉 Want to Get Involved?

If you’re passionate about accessibility and want to make a difference locally, we’d encourage you to check out the South Ayrshire Access Panel. They play a key role in shaping a more inclusive South Ayrshire - and they’re always keen to welcome new members.
