This National Smile Month, we’re shining a light on the importance of oral health — and how it can look different for neurodivergent children and young people.

For many, brushing teeth and visiting the dentist can be overwhelming due to:

  • âť— Sensory sensitivities

  • âť— Toothpaste textures

  • âť— Bright lights and unfamiliar sounds at the dentist

At NEST, we believe that supporting oral health starts with understanding. With the right strategies and a flexible, respectful approach, healthy routines can feel safe, achievable, and empowering.

đź’ˇ Helpful Tips Include:

  • Using unflavoured or non-foaming toothpaste

  • Brushing to music or a visual timer

  • Practising dentist visits using social stories or role play

🧠 Because good oral health is important — but so is feeling regulated, respected, and in control.
