The Children and Young People’s Occupational Therapy Service (East Ayrshire) team has been busy recently, getting out into the community and connecting with families in a fun and meaningful way.
Through play-based activities, the team has been showing how occupational therapy can make a real difference to the lives of children and young people. These events gave families the chance to:
Meet occupational therapists in person
Ask questions about everyday challenges
Learn practical tips and strategies that can be used at home and school
Explore how play can support development and wellbeing
For many families, it was also a chance to discover that occupational therapy is about much more than clinics and appointments. By joining in games, activities, and creative play, children were able to enjoy themselves while parents and carers picked up useful advice.
One parent who attended said they valued the opportunity to chat with the team in an informal setting, making it easier to understand the support available.
The therapists also highlighted how small changes in routines or environments can make a big difference for children’s independence and confidence.
The event is part of the service’s wider commitment to making occupational therapy more accessible and approachable, ensuring families know how and when they can get support.
