Neurodivergent individuals often navigate the world in unique ways.
By understanding their lived experiences, we can offer better support and create more inclusive environments.
This Terminology Tuesday, we’re spotlighting five key neurodivergent experiences. 🧠💡
🧠 Executive Functioning
Refers to mental skills that help with planning, organizing, and completing tasks. Many neurodivergent people experience challenges in this area.
💔 Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD)
A heightened emotional response to perceived rejection or criticism, often associated with ADHD.
🔊 Sensory Processing
The way the nervous system receives and responds to sensory input. Some individuals may be hypersensitive or hyposensitive to sounds, lights, textures, or smells.
🎭 Masking
The act of hiding or suppressing one’s natural behaviours to fit in socially, which can be mentally and emotionally exhausting.
🌀 Stimming
Short for self-stimulatory behaviour, such as hand-flapping or rocking, which helps regulate emotions or sensory input.
By learning about these experiences, we can better understand and support the neurodivergent people in our lives. 💙🌍
